Xiamen City

Xiamen is located in the southeast coast of China. It is made up of Xiamen Island, Gulangyu and some coastal areas on the north bank of inland Jiulong River. Altogether, these cover an area of 1,699.34 square kilometers, among them, Xiamen Island, the fourth largest island of Fujian covering an area of 141.09 square kilometers. It has a permanent population of 4,110,000 as of the end of 2018. It is divided into 6 districts- Siming, Huli, Jimei, Haicang, Tong'an, Xiang'an.

Xiamen City, also named “Egret Island”, which implies “The Gate of the Mansion of China”. Xiamen is a modern metropolis by the beautiful Xiamen Bay, a city with the homiest ambience in the southeast China. It is one of China’s first batch of five special economic zones, facing Taiwan across the sea. The City of Xiamen has been awarded a string of honors, including the “UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award”, “Nations in Bloom City”, “China’s Best Tourist City”, and “Model of Innovation-oriented City”. Now linked to mainland Fujian by a causeway, Xiamen retains a strong international flavor. The integration of the indigeous Southern Fujian (Minnan) culture with Western culture has resulted in a unique cityscape. Today Xiamen is one of China’s most attractive and best-maintained resort cities.

Habitable City

Thriving and prospering by the sea, Xiamen, an island of green hills and beautiful gardens, enjoys a mild, pleasant subtropical marine climate featuring warm winter and cool summer, with an average annual temperature of 21℃. Former U.S. President Richard Nixon hailed Xiamen as the “Hawaii of the East”. It is one of China's top ten cities suitable for habitation with its dynamic and vibrant city life, high development in culture and education, economic prosperity and picturesque scenery.

Delonix Regia

Delonix regia, also named flame tree, whose leaves looks like flying phoenix’s plume while flowers like the crown of it. It exactly symbolizes the enthusiasim for the city’s construction, adequately embodys the appearance of Ximen, the characteristics of Xiamen people and the prosperity’s scene of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone. The flowers of delonix regia come into gorgeous blossom in Xiamen University also. Xiamen is a well-known tourist port city, which is the Garden Cities of China, the National Environmental Protection Model Cities and the best sightseeing cities in China. The perfect three-dimensional network of sea, land and air transportations of Xiamen have provided prerequisites for the development of its internationlisation. So far, three countries’ Consulate Generals (the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, the Kingdom of Thailand) are set in Xiamen. Xiamen City has sister international cities, sister ports and friendship ports. Xiamen has established significant economic, trade and cultural ties with over 200 contries and regions around the globe. The seeds of friendship for mutually beneficial cooperation have been spread across the world.
