SMXMU’s full-time 3-year Academic master’s programme enrolls students from throughout the Mainland and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions. All candidates must take the NGEE and a second-round written and oral exam after passing the NGEE cut-off score. Only those who excel in both rounds can be admitted to SMXMU.

Academic master’s must complete at least 27 credits, which include 5 credits from XMU basic courses, 6-7 credits from School common courses, 3-5 credits from School elective common courses, 3-17 from compulsory disciplinary courses, 2-10 from elective disciplinary courses, 1 credit from academic lectures, and 1 credit from social practice. Academic master’s conduct the following types of social practice: corporation-funded research projects, special social practice activities, temporary service in social organisations, practical training in XMU-corporate cooperation bases, entrepreneurship and employment practices, etc. In addition, master’s students are required to attend at least 10 seminars. Students are qualified for the master’s degree only after completing all required courses and credits and the thesis writing and defense.

After one year of studies, outstanding master’s students with strong research interests and aspirations for a PhD degree can apply for the master’s-doctorate continuous studies.
